On Friday Josie had her own going away party filled with a lot of 10 year old girl excitement and energy. Almost all of her close friends were able to make it which made her so happy! Most of the girls were even very kind to Benjamin who did a bang up job of hanging with a group of older girls. He has energy for miles and sometimes he can just be too much but they all welcomed him into the group.
Marty always says that our kids learn more by example than anything else. I don't want to take credit for her having such great and discerning taste in friends but I have to believe that because Marty and I have such great friends that she is following our example. Maybe too much of a stretch? Perhaps but as we are about to depart on this enormous adventure away from family and friends I'm more appreciative than I've ever been for having the ultra incredible friends and family that all four of us have.
For her party we decided to take a group photo and then have each girl put her name on the photo mat and then the other friends at the party could sign around it - yearbook style. We also made some stationary and handed out her German address and email and all of her contact information.
The world is so small that with modern technology hopefully she feels as connected as possible to her besties back in West Seattle. Marty did a fabulous job of getting a group photo which was nearly impossible to get one without at least one of these girls closing their eyes. Also, one of the girls had to leave early so he had to photo shop one of them in. Can you tell which one?
