Schlachtensee

We had such a fun day at Schlachtensee today.  We all were a bit grumpy and stir crazy after breakfast.  Marty decides we need to get out and see something new to us. Since this is the day before Josie starts school we want to do something fun but not pack it too tight.  So we jump on the bus to the S-Bahn station, meet up with Julie on the train and take it just a few stops to Schlachtensee.

We had no idea we lived so close to a huge, beautiful lake! We were going to bike because it is less than 3 miles away but as we were packing up the clouds looked threatening and after the downpour on Friday we didn't want to risk it. The lake is surrounded by a trail (imagine Green Lake x 2 with many more trees, way WAY fewer people and much cleaner lake water) We decide to rent a boat and the 5 of us plus Frida pile in.  We had such a great time out on the boat.
After a few minutes I decide to feel the water expecting it to be quite cold but it was really, shockingly warm.  We had brought the kids swimsuits and I was really bummed that I didn't bring mine.  I have REALLY been missing my daily swims!
The kids had a complete blast swimming around and jumping off the back of the boat and then pulling themselves back in looking like beached whales each time.

On the train ride back Josie claimed that this "was the best last day before school day EVER!"  Wow, very rarely does she dole out these types of compliments anymore.
A few more fun shots:

Because the S-Bahn is right near our favorite, local Doener (notice the "oe" because for some reason I cannot type the o umlaut) Kebab place we decide to stop for a late lunch early dinner.  So SO good.  And huge and cheap.

Poor Benjamin. He has no front teeth.  I have no idea how he eats these things.. or anything for that matter.

Up next: First day of school for Josie TOMORROW!!  She seems excited but not nervous.  Stay tuned.
