Oh, Canada!!

In mid October Josie had a Friday with no school.  Marty got a crazy idea that we should head up to a rather unknown area of Canada in the Okanogan Valley called Lake Osoyoos.  It was a 6+ hour drive and we weren't able to leave on Thursday until after I taught the after school Spanish class.  Which put us pulling out of our driveway around 5PM.  We hit pretty heavy traffic around Cle Elum and so we decided to stop for dinner there.  Both of us thought (although didn't say to each other) 'why don't we just drive back home.  This was a crazy idea and we won't even get to Canada until well past midnight'  Thankfully neither of us said anything and after dinner we continued on the journey.  The kids were awesome travelers, as usual, and fell asleep shortly before we arrived around 12:30 AM.  We couldn't see much as we entered so when we woke up the next morning and saw this lake right at the foot of our hotel it made the drive all worth it.  What a beautiful area of Canada!

Even in the high, summer season I can't imagine this place gets all that busy as there weren't that many restaurants and the "town" was very small.  Most of the restaurants were closed for low season but we found a few decent ones still open. We didn't have much planned so we went for long walks down to 'town' and along the beach and built sand castles.

Funny sign in a store in town... very true :)

 More sand castles.
More walks and posing for beautiful Fall photos.

Kicking the ball up and down the beach for hours.

We also went on a drive looking for a good place to hike.  This was the view from up above the lake.

The hotel had a small pool with a three story water slide.  We spent hours and hours in this pool!!  Most of the time we were the only ones in it.  Benjamin did the full slide a couple of times but preferred to be pulled up about half way and then pushed a little by Josie.

On the way home we took the West Cascades Highway.  It was stunning... as was this little beauty!

We also stopped in Winthrop for lunch..
Such a fun and relaxing long weekend away.
