Benjamin has seriously blown us away with how he has taken to reading this year. He has enjoyed reading books and in particular, being read to but these past few months he has really taken off.Marty had read to him the entire first Percy Jackson Series (think Harry Potter mixed with Greek Gods instead of witches) It was 5 large, 500 page books. Marty started the second 5 book series and when they were halfway through the second book Benjamin just couldn't wait to find out what happened so he

He laughs with his book and gets surprised by his book and tells us some of the details of his book. He is really really enjoying it. It is super that Marty built up the scaffolding for him to really soar. Since the bulk of the characters and the themes continue through each book in the series he had a very strong foundation to be a solo reader. He just recently started the third series by the same author and it is a bit different than the first two series so it will be interesting if he takes to these books as well.

Hey Karrie! It's Sarah Liberator's friend Amy. I just had to commiserate with you on the Rick Riordan books. Percy Jackson was literally the gateway to magic for my son when he was about Benjamin's age, and that started the most amazing journey for the two of us...we still share books and talk about books every day and he's an adult now, 20 years old. Literally the other day he called me and said "MOM! I gotta tell you about Rick Riordan's new series! It's totally a combination of Percy and the Romans and this..and that..." and off he went. Pretty darn cool.

Thanks so much for the comment. Yes, it is so cool when your children become readers. Josie likes to read but never has LOVED to read. It was completely different with Benjamin. He doesn't need to be told to "go read a book" he naturally just gravitates to his books. Thankfully the librarian at their school is super nice to him and often allows him to check out more than the 2 allotted books. Hope you are doing well and happy the stories in the blog bring a bit of light to the dull work day. xo Karrie
